About the team
You’ll join the Argos Commercial & Digital Buying team, a key function responsible for shaping customer‑focused, commercially strong ranges across a complex, omnichannel retail environment. The team works at pace, partnering closely with Merchandising, Global Sourcing, Product Development, Digital and Marketing to deliver propositions that meet customer needs while driving sustainable sales and margin growth.
This is a highly collaborative environment where strong commercial judgement, curiosity and adaptability are essential. The team balances short‑term trading priorities with longer‑term category strategy, offering exposure to a broad range of stakeholders and decision‑making at scale.
More about the role
As a Buyer, you’ll have end‑to‑end ownership of the buying process for your assigned ranges, translating category strategy into clear commercial decisions. You’ll be accountable for performance against core KPIs, including sales, margin, stock, availability and digital metrics, ensuring your ranges are competitive, customer‑relevant and commercially robust.
You’ll lead range selection, pricing architecture and supplier negotiations, using market, customer and cost insight to inform decisions. A key part of the role involves monitoring trading performance and competitor activity, identifying risks and opportunities and adapting plans to maximise commercial outcomes.
Working in close partnership with Merchandising, you’ll align forecasts, budgets and trading plans, while collaborating with Global Sourcing and Product Development to shape sourcing strategies and product pipelines. You’ll also support and guide Assistant Buyers, helping to prioritise workload and ensure clear, compliant and efficient ways of working across the team.

You’ll bring commercial buying experience within a retail environment and be confident making data‑led decisions across a live category or range. Comfortable working in a fast‑paced setting, you’ll be able to manage competing priorities while maintaining a clear focus on delivery against agreed targets.
You’ll have experience building effective supplier relationships and influencing outcomes through commercial negotiations. Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills are essential, with the ability to work collaboratively across functions and clearly articulate recommendations, risks and trade‑offs.
