Overview
We have a great opportunity for you to join our Water Quality and Environment team as a Senior Environmental Officer. The new Senior Environmental Officer role will be responsible for managing environmental risks across a designated region - Area 6 (Birmingham North, Stafford, Stokeon Trent, West Stoke & Staffs Moorland, Central West Network Ops and Staffordshire Network Ops). The role entails ensuring compliance with environmental permits and regulations, managing the Corrective Action Reporting (CAR) process, and facilitating Environment Agency (EA) audits. The officer will act as the primary point of contact for environmental compliance issues, working closely with operational teams to proactively identify and mitigate risks, and ensuring that sites are consistently 'audit ready'.
What you’ll bring to the role
* The successful candidate will ideally have experience in Waste Water Recycling treatment processes or Waste Network Operations.
* Ability to analyse large datasets, identify trends, and draw meaningful conclusions.
* Proven experience in continuous improvement, with a track record of identifying and implementing process enhancements.
* Ability to communicate complex technical and regulatory information to a range of audiences, from operational teams to senior stakeholders.
* A full UK Driving Licence is essential.
Responsibilities
* Identify, assess, and manage environmental risks associated with operations across designated regions.
* Regularly review and amend environmental permits to ensure they remain up-to-date and reflective of operational practices.
* Facilitate and lead Environment Agency site inspections, coordinating with internal teams to ensure sites meet audit.
* Conduct regular, risk-based site inspections to ensure compliance and readiness for external audits, aiming for a target of 10 site inspections per month.
* Manage the Compliance Assessment Report (CAR) process, ensuring timely and effective resolution of any non-compliance issues.
* Utilise PowerBI dashboards, and eSCADA trends to monitor environmental performance across sites.
* Lead collaboration between multiple teams, including front-line operational teams, process scientists, and flow compliance technicians, to address and resolve compliance issues.
* Develop and implement improvements to current data reporting practices, ensuring that reporting is timely, accurate, and aligned with regulatory requirements.

* Salary of £37,000 - £55,000
