Job overview

Department: Medicine

This post is based within the Medicine Administration Pool.

Core duties include proof reading and processing clinic letters (primarily FFT) for multiple medicine specialties, uploading referrals and documents important to upcoming out-patient appointments and checking / updating patient pathways to reflect clinical outcomes.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone who is:

1. A positive and enthusiastic team member with high professional standards and a keen eye for detail
2. Able to demonstrate excellent IT skills with efficient and accurate word processing skills
3. An excellent communicator with a high level of interpersonal skills
4. Knowledge of Office, Outlook, including Word and Excel, E-mail and Internet
5. Understands the importance of confidentiality with knowledge of General Data Protection Regulations

Working for our organisation

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff. This training programme has been designed to support our staff in developing their understanding of leadership and management skills. You will be expected to attend the following training sessions:

After you complete these one and a half days of training, you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities. We also offer a range of additional in-house courses and bitesize programmes through our Leadership and Improvement Team.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria

6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
7. Understanding of clerical processes
8. Efficient and accurate word processing skills

Desirable criteria

9. Experience in a clinical setting Knowledge of hospital patient administration system
10. Knowledge of medical terminology
11. Understanding of a range of work procedures associated with outpatient clinic arrangements, secretarial office procedures and case note procedures
12. Knowledge of General Data Protection Regulations and patient confidentiality

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

13. GCSEs English and Maths A-C or equivalent qualification or equivalent work experience
14. NVQ 2 in Business Administration or equivalent experience or equivalent work experience

Desirable criteria

15. Attendance at Novice and leadership improvement sessions within first year of role

Experience

Essential criteria

16. Knowledge of Office and Outlook, including word, excel and powerpoint, e-mail and internet

Desirable criteria

17. Healthcare / STHFT, or any NHS Trust secretarial experience
18. Previous experience working within a team
19. Administrative experience
