We’re recruiting to a key role in our Strategic Asset Management team at Dorset Council, focused on shaping and understanding the operational property needs of Adults and Children’s Services. This role is central to ensuring our buildings genuinely support the way services work and helping us plan responsibly for the future, so communities have the right spaces in the right places.
What You’ll Be Doing
As our Adults and Children’s Service Requirements Partner, you’ll work alongside teams across both service areas to co‑create solutions that reflect their deeper priorities and long‑term ambitions. Moving beyond initial requests, you’ll foster meaningful dialogue to uncover strategic opportunities and align needs with future‑focused outcomes. Through this collaborative approach, you’ll translate insights into clear, actionable plans that empower our property and technical teams to deliver lasting impact.
You’ll lead asset reviews, develop asset class strategies and shape long‑term plans that balance ambition with budgets. You’ll work closely with senior leaders and councillors, communicate confidently and act as the link between technical detail and service priorities, helping everyone see the wider picture and make well‑informed decisions.
About You
You’ll be:
* analytical, able to draw out real requirements rather than just what is first said
* diplomatic, with strong judgement and an ability to understand nuance
* confident meeting people across Adults and Children’s Services to understand how they work and what they need
* skilled at translating between technical property language and social, service‑focused priorities
* an effective communicator who can speak professionally with councillors, senior leaders and partners
* strategic in your thinking, able to consider budgets, long‑term plans and what is realistically achievable
* a people person who builds trust quickly and works collaboratively
* experienced in options appraisals, business cases or operational property work, or able to bring equivalent strategic experience from a related field
If you’re ready to use your insight and strategic thinking to support frontline services and improve outcomes for Dorset’s communities, we’d love to hear from you.
