Job Summary
We invite applications from professionals with a CCT in Microbiology or a joint Microbiology and Infectious Diseases qualification to join the North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service (NMCPS) Infection Sciences department. The appointee will work alongside a team of four Consultant Microbiologists based at Royal Stoke University Hospital (University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust) and a Consultant Microbiologist at Mid Cheshire NHS Foundation Trust, providing a comprehensive clinical Microbiology / ID service to the Trusts served by the NMCPS.

Main Duties of the Job
The Clinical Microbiology duties are well‑organised, with several ward rounds and MDTs each week. The Trusts have robust IP and AMS teams, in which microbiologists/ID physicians are actively involved. Clinical microbiology is supported by a well‑equipped, modern automated laboratory and a highly skilled technical team. The laboratory is fully accredited by UKAS against ISO 15189 and participates in all relevant EQA schemes.
Qualifications (Essential)
* Full and Specialist registration with the GMC, or eligibility for registration within 6 months of interview
* UK‑trained applicants must hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by interview date
* Non‑UK‑trained applicants must provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
* FRC Path or equivalent qualification
* MBChB or equivalent qualification
Qualifications (Desirable)
* Higher Medical Degree (PhD/MD)
* Additional qualification relevant to Microbiology and Infection Control
* MRCP or equivalent qualification
Experience (Essential)
* Broad training and experience in Microbiology
* Extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of infections
* Experience working in a UK infectious disease unit
Experience (Desirable)
* Experience in infection control

* Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in microbiology, microbiology & infectious diseases
* Extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of infections across complex specialty medicine and surgery (including Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic surgery, Haematology, Oncology, Renal Medicine, and Adult, Paediatric, and Neonatal Intensive Care)
* Long‑term experience working in a UK infectious disease unit
