Faraday's Syndicate 435 at Lloyd's underwrites Aviation, Casualty (North American Specialist Lines, Financial Lines, International Casualty and UK Liability Insurance), Property (Direct & Facultative and Treaty), Agriculture and Energy.
These distinct teams underwrite a diverse range of risks worldwide both on an insurance and reinsurance basis, developing close and mutually supportive relationships with clients and brokers in our chosen markets. Our customers are at the heart of everything we do.
We currently offer an excellent opportunity for a Property (D&F) Underwriter in our London Office.
Main purpose of the role
To support the Property Direct and Facultative (D&F) Excess team in the growth and portfolio management of the Excess book.
Context of the role
Working as an integral part of the Excess team. The D&F Excess book is a relatively new and rapidly growing product operating alongside the D&F Underwriting team which requires an individual to respond quickly to incoming requests, managing the demands of both internal and external clients. While a standalone function, the team forms part of the wider Property D&F team comprised of the Head of Property and a further six colleagues in various underwriting and administrative positions.
Key Responsibilities
To underwrite the D&F Excess Insurance and reinsurance portfolio at the Lloyd's box and in the office, including the following tasks:
· Underwriting D&F Excess risks with an emphasis on US business as per the underwriting guidelines and within underwriting authority limits. This includes reviewing new and renewal submissions, populating rating models, producing initial pricing calculations alongside broker negotiations and carrying a submission through the quote to bind process.
·· Developing a full understanding of all pricing models used by the Excess team.
· Maintaining existing and developing new broker relationships.
· Functioning independently with limited direction over time while respecting corporate rules and guidelines and benefiting from the team's collaborative approach to risk underwriting.
· Making recommendations and developing Underwriting / Portfolio strategy in conjunction with management. Actively identifying, defining, and pursuing new business opportunities to secure long-term, profitable relationships with clients and brokers.
· Attending client and broker meetings as required.
· Risk reviews including rate monitoring and peer review.
· Performing all necessary travel as required for client meetings and marketing.
· Creating ad hoc and 'diarised' reporting.
· Producing regulatory reports and always maintaining regulatory standards.
· Liaising with claims team to monitor loss trends
Qualifications & Experience
· Being curious and possessing a strong desire to develop a career within the insurance market are qualities that are of equal importance to us as prior experience within a similar position or working knowledge of the insurance industry.
· Solid underwriting or broking experience
· Strong negotiating and influencing skills
· Sound verbal and written communication skills/ interpersonal skills
· Good industry background with solid experience in an insurance role
· Knowledge of technical pricing models
· Team player
· Strong work ethic and a sense of urgency
