Great British Nuclear (GBN) is a new government arm’s length body supporting the delivery of Britain’s energy security and net zero, making sure that we can power Britain from Britain sustainably. It has been set up to turn nuclear ambition into reality.

GBN’s first step was to start the technology selection process for Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in July. SMRs can potentially be quicker to deploy and less expensive to build than traditional nuclear power plants because they are smaller, have factory based modular manufacturing, and more flexible deployment options.

GBN is aiming to deliver fast, based on a supportive and collaborative culture which values equality and diversity and creates an inclusive workplace. It draws on deep nuclear expertise – its Executive Committee has over 100 years of nuclear experience in this country and abroad. And it can unlock billions of pounds of private and public investment from design to operation, helping to get sites ready for development, and working to grow manufacturing capacity and skills capability.

Our activities will be driven by our values, which are:

Trust - We prioritise safety, we act responsibly and with integrity.

Collaborative - We work as a team; we value diversity and expertise.

Challenge - We are curious and courageous in the way we think and act.

Care - We are thoughtful, inclusive and respectful of others.

Drive - We get things done and we make a difference.

Job Profile

The Engineering Interfaces Manager holds a critical role in aligning the technical interfaces between GBN, SMR Technology Partner (TP), Owner’s Engineer and Foundation Engineering capabilities within the IPT. Reporting to the Technical Director, you will work closely with the Engineering Lead, Design Management Lead, Design Authority Lead and Safety Case Lead.

You will form part of the establishment of a major programme. This will provide you with an opportunity to be part of a team that ensures successful delivery of a First of a Kind (FOAK) UK SMR Project. Whilst this is a fast-paced and exciting challenge, you will need to be comfortable with uncertainty, ambiguity and change.

Interface Management:

* Develop and maintain interface management plans, control documents and interface matrices for all engineering, licensing, and commercial interactions.
* Identify, track, and resolve technical interfaces between client, technology provider, owner’s engineer, foundation and site engineering teams.
* Serve as the single point of coordination for interface resolution between external and internal stakeholders.

Stakeholder Mobilization and Coordination:

* Actively lead and mobilize multi-disciplinary teams to resolve design, licensing, and site integration challenges at interfaces.
* Drive collaboration and alignment among client representatives, OEM design teams, owner’s engineering consultants, and site/foundation engineering partners.
* Establish formal interface protocols and collaboration tools across all organizations.

Technical Integration and Support:

* Ensure engineering design input is aligned with local licensing, site conditions, and foundational requirements.
* Provide early technical guidance to ensure that engineering deliverables support the overall development and commercial objectives.

Governance and Reporting:

* Lead interface coordination meetings and maintain issue logs and decision records.
* Report interface status and escalate unresolved issues to project leadership with recommended mitigations.
* Maintain strong configuration and change control discipline across interface boundaries.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:

* Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement capabilities with the ability to mobilize cross-functional teams.
* Skilled in interface planning, facilitation, and issue resolution.
* Excellent verbal and written communication, with a clear and structured approach to coordination.
* Fluent in English; additional languages an asset, especially for multinational projects.
* Strong organizational and project integration skills.

Qualifications

* Chartered Engineer
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Nuclear, or related)
* Minimum 8 years’ experience working across multiple organizations including technology vendors, utilities/licensees, and EPC or owner's engineering firms.
* Working knowledge of nuclear project development, licensing processes, and civil/foundation engineering integration.
