Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Water)
We are currently recruiting multiple Senior Mechanical Design Engineers (Water) for various long-term frameworks across the UK.
RPS, along with Tetra Tech, has secured a £100 million framework from United Utilities to improve river health in Northwest England.

This 10-year framework aims to optimize programs, develop solutions, and select the best options based on value, low carbon footprint, and cost, aiming to deliver exceptional water services for a resilient and eco-friendly Northwest.
About The Team:
RPS Water Consulting comprises Engineers, Modellers, and Data Analysts providing Asset Management and Operational Strategy development to water industry clients, supporting business planning and delivery.
We also work with several major water companies across the UK, with a broad portfolio of long-term frameworks.
Our water consultancy has numerous AMP8 programs leading into AMP9 and beyond, offering long-term career stability and legacy opportunities.
About You:
You should be experienced in producing technical outputs such as specifications, pump and aeration system designs, schedules, and reports. Familiarity with collaborative planning, design reviews, and safety assessments is essential.
You will provide engineering input for designs, including General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, and P&ID diagrams.
Strong communication skills are required to deliver technical presentations and participate in design discussions, workshops, and safety reviews like HAZOPs and ALMs.
You should understand water and wastewater treatment processes and be experienced in assessing existing infrastructure for mechanical design development.

Your Responsibilities:
* Work on various projects across long-term frameworks with UK water companies.
* Achieve positive project and community outcomes.
* Collaborate with Senior and Principal Engineers and stakeholders to support project delivery.
* Mentor and guide junior team members.
* Understand technical drawings using AutoCAD and/or Inventor.
* Undertake asset condition surveys and prepare reports.
* Contribute to P&ID production.
* Prepare mechanical design deliverables, including calculations, reports, specifications, datasheets, drawings, schedules, and procurement documents.
* Support project team compliance with CDM duties, including risk assessments.
* Follow Quality Assurance procedures.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
* Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
* Experience in the water industry is advantageous.
* Proficiency or awareness in pump design, P&ID creation, specifications, and safety regulations.
* Knowledge of contract procurement methods, including NEC contracts.
* Ability to manage work within time, cost, and quality constraints.
* Support for junior staff development.
* Willingness to travel and visit operational sites safely, including asset surveys and equipment testing.
* Knowledge of design tools like AutoCAD is a plus but not essential.
Qualifications:
* An IMechE-accredited degree; postgraduate qualifications are a plus.
* Chartered status or working towards it for senior roles.
* Membership or ongoing application with professional bodies such as IET, InstMC, or CIWEM.
