Overview
Role Overview: As a Systems Design Engineer at Mitie, you will be responsible for the design, costing, and proposal development of complex integrated life safety and electronic security systems. These systems include, but are not limited to:
* CCTV
* Access Control
* Intruder Detection
* Intercom Systems
* Fire Detection and Alarm Systems
* Voice Alarm and Public Address
* Disabled Refuge Systems
* Structured Cabling
Responsibilities
* Design and Costing: Develop detailed designs and cost estimates for integrated security systems based on client requirements, specifications, and industry standards.
* Proposal Development: Prepare technical proposals, quotations, and tender documents.
* Technical Review: Assess client specifications, drawings, and site conditions to ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., EN, BS, HTM, NSI, BAFE).
* Collaboration: Work closely with sales teams, clients, consultants, suppliers, and contractors to ensure project success.
* Site Visits: Conduct site surveys and attend client meetings across the UK as needed.
* Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to Mitie\'s quality, health & safety, and regulatory policies.
Required Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in fire and security systems engineering/design
* Strong knowledge of technical and regulatory standards
* Proficiency in CAD software and design tools
* Excellent communication and documentation skills
* Ability to interpret and work from technical drawings and specifications
* Familiarity with ISO9001, SSQS101, FSQS121 quality systems
* Strong problem-solving and time management abilities
Desirable Attributes
* Experience in goal-driven, results-oriented environments
* Familiarity with System Surveyor design software
* Up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies in security and life safety systems
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
