Overview
The Environment Agency has a broad remit to protect and enhance the environment, with a focus on water as a precious resource. This role supports Bathing Waters work and helps ensure water quality standards are met, working with water companies and external stakeholders to protect the water environment now and for the future.
Responsibilities
* Work alongside Water Quality Officers to embed Bathing Waters work in our teams and support the Operational community of practice to fulfil its responsibilities.
* Assess Water Company proposals to meet bathing water standards and develop innovative methods to achieve compliance.
* Engage with Environment Agency teams (e.g., Local Area Integrated Environmental Planning, National Water Quality Guidance Teams) and with water companies and external stakeholders to achieve bathing water outcomes.
* Respond to incidents as part of an incident role, with training provided. Incident duties may attract additional payment.
* Be part of the OCS Water Quality team within Operations Catchment Services, working to secure outcomes across key stakeholders with a one-business approach; travel and occasional face-to-face meetings may be required.
* Benefit from training and mentoring to support development; the team is dispersed with flexible location options.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Knowledge of water quality planning, bathing water regulations, and an understanding of the water industry and price review processes; excellent communication and networking skills for working with colleagues and external stakeholders.
* Ability to analyse technical information.
* Experience presenting technical information to a wide audience.
* Organisational skills with the ability to plan, track, deliver and evaluate work to standards and timescales.
* Work experience in an environmental discipline (e.g., water companies, environmental consultancies, regulatory roles, research/education, environmental charities).
Desirable Qualifications
* Degree or postgraduate qualification in an environmental discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Ecology, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Data Science and Analytics).
* Experience in water quality modelling.
