Overview

Assistant Practitioner - Urology. Band 4. Permanent, full time (37.5 hours per week). Location: Urology centre ward, Aintree University Hospital, Liverpool. Salary: £27,485 - £30,162 per annum. Closing date: 23/10/2025 23:59.

We are looking to recruit an experienced assistant practitioner (Band 4) to work within our Regional Urology Diagnostics, treatment and Outpatients department. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, motivated, flexible and hardworking member of the Urology team, providing a service to all Urology patients including escorting them through the diagnostic process, assisting with diagnostic procedures, supporting clinic throughput, urodynamics, lithotripsy and oncology patients, and acting as a support to the Medical and Nursing team.

The individual will have completed the foundation degree in health and social care or equivalent and can demonstrate dedication to providing high standards of care. Urology treatment and diagnostics and Outpatients experience is essential. Main duties of the job

* Provide high quality patient care, appropriate to patient need.
* Take personal responsibility for ensuring patients are treated with courtesy at all times, respecting individual needs and maintaining confidentiality.
* Promote and value the rights, responsibilities and diversity of people.
* Work with Specialist Nurses to deliver treatments and knowledge on catheterisation, cystoscopy assistance, urodynamics, and support for junior staff in the Diagnostic room.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

* Coordinate a team in care delivery and work with students where appropriate.
* Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and contribute to service improvements.
* Participate in induction and ongoing development within the ward/department.


Additional Clinical Responsibilities

Under the proximal supervision of the Registered Nurse, undertake and interpret a range of patient observations, obtain specimens, order routine investigations, assist with basic and intermediate cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, maintain IV therapy safely, assist in administration of treatments, and operate equipment with competency checks.

* Undertake venepuncture, cannulation, catheterisation, bladder scanning and complex dressings following competency assessment.
* Conduct infection control audits and contribute to environmental responsibilities.
* Escort patients as required and adhere to Manual Handling regulations and Trust training requirements.
* Supervise and mentor Trainee Healthcare Support workers, Trainee Assistant Practitioners and students where appropriate.
* Participate in ward induction and promote health education for patients and relatives.
* Maintain professional behavior, uphold evidence-based care, and pursue ongoing knowledge development.


Person specification

Qualifications

* Foundation degree in assisting professional practice or equivalent (essential).

Experience

* Previous acute care experience (essential).
* Ability to provide excellent patient care (essential).

Knowledge

* Ability to analyse patient progress and understand the role of audit in maintaining standards (essential).

Skills

* Excellent communication skills and ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships.
* Basic computer skills: PAS systems, email and access to Trust policies.

Other

* Good team player, supportive of colleagues and patients.
