Site Engineer
Job Description: Wayleave Engineer / Site Engineer
Location: Site-based (UK-wide travel required)
Reports to: Site and Project Managers
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Overview
We require a proactive and adaptable Wayleave Engineer / Site Engineer to join our team delivering overhead line (OHL) transmission schemes across the UK. This is a unique dual role that blends wayleave and access negotiation with hands-on site engineering responsibilities, providing critical support in enabling and executing high-voltage construction works.
Key Responsibilities
Wayleave / Access Engineering
* Engage with landowners, tenants, agents, local authorities, and statutory bodies to secure necessary wayleave agreements, access rights, and consents.
* Conduct site visits and assessments to identify access constraints, environmental sensitivities, and land use impacts.
* Support in resolving landowner concerns, disputes, and compensation discussions in coordination with client Wayleave Officers.
* Maintain accurate records of wayleave status, correspondence, access agreements, and engagement logs.
* Liaise with the client's wayleave, legal, and environmental teams to ensure alignment with scheme requirements.
* Contribute to access strategy development and route planning from a construction logistics perspective.
Site Engineering Support
* Assist the Site and Project Managers and project team in the delivery of construction works, including surveys, setting out, and quality assurance.
* Provide technical support to the construction teams during piling, tower erection, stringing, and commissioning phases.
* Monitor site progress, prepare method statements and risk assessments, and assist in producing as-built records.
* Ensure compliance with HSEQ standards, environmental constraints, and temporary works requirements.
* Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and utility companies on-site.
Key Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in either wayleave/access negotiation or civil/site engineering within the utilities, power transmission, or infrastructure sectors.
* Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to deal with a wide range of stakeholders, including the general public.
* Working knowledge of relevant UK legislation related to land access, planning, and environmental consents.
* Good understanding of OHL construction techniques and sequencing (132kV - 400kV preferred).
* Competency in reading technical drawings, maps, and land registry plans.
* CSCS card and full UK driving licence required.
Desirable Qualifications
* Degree or HNC in Civil Engineering, Land Management, Environmental Management, or related field.
* Experience with GIS or CAD software.
* National Grid Person / BESC / Person Competent (desirable but training can be provided).
* Familiarity with National Grid TGN and TP documents or other DNO/TO standards.
