Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Core Clinical Fellow in General Medicine to join our well established Medical team.
Full GMC registration, with a licence to practice, at time of application is essential.
This job is for a Trust Doctor (ST1 equivalent) to provide care for patients for designated Consultant/team at ward level, and receiving support/training from both SpRs and Consultant staff. You will be doing the same role as deanery FY2s and CMTs and GPST1s. You would be entitled to the same study leave budget and study leave as the deanery trainees.
These are good posts to gain experience in General Medicine. Previous post holders have gone on to IMT rotations, specialty trainees rotations and GP training schemes. The rota includes on call cover for nights and weekends and is compliant with the new contract.
The role will be in General Medicine with a subspecialty interest based at Frimley Park Hospital. The available subspecialties include rheumatology, cardiology, elderly care, respiratory, gastroenterology, endocrinology and acute medicine.

Main Duties
* Provide care of acute patients under the guidance of the senior staff and will include assisting the Consultants at outpatient clinics.
* Provide supervision to the Foundation Year 1 Doctor (F1).
* Be expected to provide teaching to nursing and/or ancillary staff and under graduate students.
* Be expected to participate in audits and research as arranged by the firms.
* Perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation where practicable with their colleagues both senior and junior.
* Attend monthly Division of Medicine meetings which include Audit and Study.
This post is offered on a Fixed Term Contract basis and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in the Junior Medical on-call rota.
Duties And Responsibilities
* The appointee is responsible to the Consultants for the execution of his/her professional duties and for the supervision of the junior staff in the departments.
* Arrange to be on duty for on call shifts in accordance with the appropriate rota.
* Carry out daily ward rounds to assess progress of patients and ensure that all treatments ordered are carried out and attend rounds with Consultants.
* Ensure that adequate patient notes are kept and correspondence is undertaken punctually at all times.
* Make yourself available to confer with patients’ relatives, if required.
* Carry out such duties as assigned by the Consultant staff of the department and perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria:
* MBBCH or equivalent Medical Degree.
* Full GMC Registration (at time of application).
Desirable criteria:
* MRCP part 1, part 2 or PACES.
Experience
* 1 year post Foundation Training.
* Kept professional knowledge and skills up to date.
* Evidence of competence in basic procedures.
* Examples of awareness of own limitations, consulting senior colleagues appropriately and knowing when to ask for help.
Desirable experience:
* 12 months NHS experience.
* Evidence of leadership qualities (not necessarily in medicine).
Professional / Specialist / Functional Experience
Essential criteria:
* Understands the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection.
* Computer literate.
* Understands the principles of clinical governance – ensures patients are not put at risk.
Desirable criteria:
* Distinctions, scholarships, prizes.
