Mechanical Design Engineer - Greater Manchester
Our client has an open requirement for a Mechanical Design Engineer on a 6 month contract basis with the possibility for further extension. This will operate on an outside IR35 basis so limited company contractors will be able to operate, and a rate between £35 and £43 per hour is expected, subject to level of experience and suitability. Candidates will be required to work in the office full time initially and then switch to a hybrid model of 3 days office based and 2 from home after a few weeks’ orientation.
The client is looking for a good engineering background first and foremost with strong experience and knowledge of typical mechanical equipment and terminology including: Limits and fittings, bearings, linear guides, GD&T’s, rotating equipment, and automated equipment such as motors, gearboxes, and drives. They should also have a basic knowledge of working with steel structures. The client is using Creo design software - and prior experience on this or Pro/E would be highly preferred - however they can be flexible on this and willing to provide training and assistance. A design engineer with good real world equipment knowledge, and experience using Inventor or CATIA software would also be potentially suitable.
This will be to work on a bespoke client project relating to a large moving gantry over water. They will receive input and ideas from the team and be asked to work up a model without need for frequent supervision or explanation of the equipment involved – but still possessing the ability to ask questions where necessary.
Mechanical Design Engineer - Duties:
* Undertake engineering design, analysis, and calculations to underpin our equipment designs.
* Participate in design reviews, and recommend design modifications to improve functionality, reliability, and manufacturability.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software engineers, and project managers, to ensure successful project completion.
* Support in the development of concepts and design solutions for new technology, including planning, testing and verification activities.
* Producing technical reports, specifications, and other technical documentation.
* Produce 3D CAD models and drawings for detailed design.

In addition to this temporary contract requirement, the client is also looking to build their team of Mechanical Design Engineeracross a few UK offices on a permanent staff basis. We are therefore keen to hear from people open to permanent staff, and based in the Greater Manchester and Oxfordshire (and surrounding) areas. Profiles will be very similar to the above with an excellent grounding in the basics of Mechanical equipment required along with software experience on some of the listed platforms. The client works within the built environment around water developing highly niche physical modelling technology. Training within this will be necessary which is why the client requires candidates with excellent fundamentals. Salaries are expected to be around 45K for senior level engineers (5-7 years experience) and 50-55K for principal (8years+)
