An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the orthopaedic therapy team at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.
To provide a high standard physiotherapy service to the inpatient trauma and elective orthopaedic wards as well as the arthroplasty clinic at the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke.
To perform advanced therapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.
To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working often without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review and case conferences. Access to advice and support from a senior therapist is always available if required, clinical work is evaluated through supervision sessions.
To deputise for the Band 7 in operational management of the team when required.
To provide supervision and teaching within the MDT and to students.
To undertake quality improvement projects to further own and team’s clinical practice. Make recommendations to Team Lead/Service Lead for changes to practice by the team. Assist in the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service development.
Main duties of the job
1. To work on the orthopaedic trauma and elective wards at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, to provide an individual assessment and treatment programme for your patients
2. To support the team with providing therapy for orthopaedic outlier patients
3. To support the team with supervising junior staff members, therapy support workers and students
4. Support clinics such as shockwave and the elective arthroplasty follow up clinics
5. To take part and lead in the robust in service training programme to the team and wider MDT
6. When required, support the orthopaedic therapy team cross site
7. To take an active role in service development, quality improvement and other projects within the department and Trust
8. Deputise for the team leads when they are absent
9. Take part in the weekend rota
10. Take part in the respiratory on-call rota

Qualifications/training
Essential criteria
11. BSc/MSc/Grad diploma Physiotherapy or equivalent
12. HCPC registration
13. Previous orthopaedic experience
Desirable criteria
14. CSP membership
15. Additional post graduate training
16. Member of relevant specialist interest group eg. ATOCP
Experience/knowledge
Essential criteria
17. Evidence of band 5 rotations/appropriate clinical experience
18. Demonstrate effective management of own workload and autonomous practice
19. Knowledge and experience of working clinically within the NHS, with an awareness of evidence based practice
20. Evidence of undertaking relevant post graduate training/CPD including reflective practice
Desirable criteria
21. Experience of participating in respiratory on-call rota
22. Previous appropriate experience of being a clinical band 6
23. Evidence of researching HHFT as an employer and expressing wanting to work for the Trust
24. Experience of teaching to teams/individuals
Skills and Ability
Essential criteria
25. Effective verbal and written communication skills
26. Experience of or demonstrate potential to lead the team in seniors absence
27. IT literate

28. Experience of using certain IT programmes, eg. SWASH, EPR, Microsoft Teams
