Job overview

We are looking for a compassionate, skilled, and motivated Senior Nursing Assistant to join our Renal Outpatient team, supporting services across both Sidcup Renal Outpatient Department and Guy’s Hospital Outpatient Department.

As a Senior Nursing Assistant, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to individuals living with chronic kidney disease. This is a rewarding and varied role in a fast-paced outpatient setting, where you will support the nursing and medical teams in ensuring safe, efficient, and person-focused care for patients attending consultations, investigations, and ongoing management of their kidney condition.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Nursing Assistant in the Renal Outpatient Department, your main responsibility is to support the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care to patients with chronic kidney disease attending the clinic for consultations, routine reviews, diagnostics, and follow-up treatment planning. You will be an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, working under the supervision of registered nurses and supporting the day-to-day running of the outpatient clinics.

Your core duties will include preparing clinical areas before clinics commence, ensuring that equipment is clean, functioning, and appropriately stocked. You will welcome patients into the department, check their identification, and ensure they are informed about the clinic process. You will perform routine clinical observations including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, weight, and body mass index (BMI) recording.

A key responsibility of this role is to carry out phlebotomy competently and confidently, following local trust policies and infection control standards. You will be expected to take blood samples as requested by the nursing or medical team, label specimens accurately, and transport them promptly to the laboratory to avoid delays in patient care.
