Building Surveyor - Asset Management
Location Shropshire | Salary £50000 - £63000 + Benefits
We're working with a well-established organisation that's looking to appoint a Building Surveyor into its Asset Management team. This is a key role responsible for delivering capital investment works, cyclical and statutory maintenance, and ensuring building safety compliance across a varied property portfolio.
The Role
As a Building Surveyor, you'll manage a range of technical and complex projects - from early-stage planning and tendering through to delivery and sign-off. You'll be expected to work closely with contractors, internal teams, and residents to ensure all works meet regulatory, quality, and safety standards.
You'll also play an important role in resident engagement. This includes formal Resident Assurance Meetings (RAMs) for every scheme each year, where you'll provide updates, address safety concerns, and gather feedback. In addition, you'll lead informal meetings (such as during Fire Risk Assessments) where residents are encouraged to engage directly.
For each capital works project, you'll coordinate pre-start meetings with the contractor - and on the same day, lead a resident-focused pre-start session to explain the works, answer queries, and ensure residents are fully informed.
This role suits someone confident in presenting to residents, proactive in building trust, and committed to delivering visible, high-quality outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver capital investment, cyclical, and statutory maintenance projects
* Prepare and manage tender documentation, contract administration, and site supervision
* Ensure compliance with H&S legislation, CDM regs, and building safety requirements
* Act as Building Safety Manager, maintaining visibility across key schemes
* Lead Resident Assurance Meetings (RAMs), presenting key messages and responding to concerns
* Facilitate pre-start meetings with both contractors and residents on every project
* Attend and support informal resident meetings (e.g. FRA engagement sessions)
* Build strong, trust-based relationships with residents, ensuring clear communication throughout projects
What We're Looking For
* Solid experience in a building surveying or similar technical role
* Comfortable presenting to groups and engaging directly with residents
* Strong understanding of contract management, quality control, and regulatory compliance
* Familiar with building safety legislation and CDM (Principal Designer experience desirable)
* Degree or HND in a construction-related subject, or equivalent professional experience
What's on Offer
This is a varied and impactful role within a professional, purpose-driven team. You'll be given clear responsibilities, the support to deliver them well, and the chance to shape the way projects are delivered on the ground - with safety and resident engagement front and centre.
