Job Description
The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. She/he is responsible for quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism. Additionally, the nurse directs, coordinates, and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
A Registered Nurse I (RN I) is responsible for the care of their assigned patient population. An RN I must complete yearly mandatory competencies, unit-specific competencies as identified by the Director/Designee, and the Professional Practice Ladder requirements, which include assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in PI activities and department initiatives, and engaging in educational activities such as seminars, conferences, workshops, or nursing articles. The portfolio must be current and submitted annually by March 1st. The RN routinely solicits and validates patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer reviews, and develops educational materials for staff and patients.
Education
Associates in Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN or ADN) required. A Bachelor's in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
Certification & Licensures
RN License required. BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required. Relevant specialty certification is preferred. Based on residency, must be licensed or eligible to practice as a Registered Nurse in Virginia, either via a multi-state license under the Nurse Licensure Compact or a single-state license valid in Virginia. New hires must have AHA certification prior to orientation.
Qualifications
* Competent in providing care based on the human growth and development stages.
* Capable of providing care utilizing the nursing process.
* Must have reliable phone communication with the hospital.
* For new RN I hires or promotions, must secure an Eligibility to Test Letter from the Virginia Board of Nursing or equivalent licensure documentation.
