We are looking for two Evidence Advisors to join the EA’s Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (NCEA) Programme. The role focuses on designing and analyzing data from water monitoring networks covering rivers, streams, groundwater, lakes, estuaries, and coasts.
The NCEA programme is part of a wider initiative led by Defra, aimed at gathering comprehensive data on ecosystems to highlight their benefits for society and the economy. Your analyses will support policy and decision-making to help the UK meet its environmental, net zero, and biodiversity goals.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide statistical expertise in network design and implementation related to hydrogeology, freshwater ecology, or coastal environments.
* Work with network designers to ensure data collection is unbiased and representative.
* Apply analytical techniques to evaluate network performance and interpret environmental data.
* Develop reproducible data analysis pipelines.
* Conduct exploratory data analyses to identify environmental relationships, utilizing domain knowledge and systems mapping.
* Integrate diverse datasets for regional and trend analysis reporting.
* Contribute to developing metrics and indicators and advise on future reporting needs.
This is a fixed-term contract until 30/05/2027.
The Team:
You will be part of the Data Analysis and Statistics work package within the NCEA programme, supported by the Strategic Evidence Design and Assessment (SEDA) team. We promote a friendly, inclusive, and development-focused work environment with training and support provided.
Experience and Skills Required:
Background & Knowledge:
* A degree or higher in environmental science, hydrogeology, freshwater ecology, with data analysis and statistics training.
* Understanding of freshwater, coastal, estuarine, or groundwater management and monitoring.
* Experience analyzing environmental data and statistical modeling, with awareness of data complexities and biases.
* Familiarity with current environmental data science practices.
* Experience with statistical model fitting and robustness testing is advantageous.
Key Skills:
* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
* Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
* Proficiency in R programming.
* Detail-oriented with a passion for data analysis and problem-solving.
* Ability to collaborate with stakeholders.
* Excellent organizational skills to manage workload and deadlines.
* Interpersonal skills to build trust and gain buy-in.

Flexible/hybrid working arrangements are available. Travel may be required for team meetings in Birmingham/Bristol.
