Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Sheffield Salary: £460 – £600 per week Contract Type: Full time, long-term / Day-to-day Start Date: Immediately Are you passionate about supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Sheffield. Staff work collaboratively to ensure every student receives the guidance and encouragement needed to thrive. About the Role: As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support students both inside and outside the classroom, helping them to engage with learning and manage their emotions effectively. You will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, building trust, and fostering a supportive learning environment where students can succeed. Responsibilities: • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs, promoting engagement and progress. • Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored lessons and targeted interventions. • Support students in developing emotional regulation, resilience, and positive coping strategies. • Help maintain a structured and safe classroom environment through effective behaviour management. • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage confidence and independence. • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and senior staff. • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to implement personalised support plans. Qualifications: • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is desirable. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent in challenging situations. • Understanding of behaviour management strategies and supportive interventions. • A compassionate and proactive approach to supporting students with additional needs.
