We currently have a vacancy for a full-time position to be based in the Paediatric Cardiology department with a focus on paediatric cardiology and adolescent care through the transition phase through to adult cardiology services.
Main duties of the job
The CNS role will be across the network which spans across South East England, supporting the women and children seen by the fetal & paediatric cardiology teams at Evelina London and Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals. The successful candidate will work across all of the paediatric cardiology sites supported by the Evelina London Children’s Hospital and Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals clinical nurse specialist teams. It is an exciting time to join the GSTT trust and develop skills across the spectrum of the cardiology services.
The role of Paediatric Cardiology Clinical Nurse Specialist is a really exciting role with a broad remit. There is great opportunity to be involved in service development, local and national education, also audit and research. Evidence of experience in these areas is essential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful candidate will work as part of the Paediatric Cardiology CNS teams supporting patients and their families through all aspects of paediatric cardiology care including the preparation and transfer from paediatric to adult services. This particular role will be primarily based in the across the Paediatric cardiology and Congenital Heart Disease Transition CNS service with the potential to work across the whole department if required.
They will act as an expert resource to families and junior staff and will be expected to educate families and staff regarding cardiac conditions.
They will advocate for families and patients when required.
They will provide nurse-led services, as well as supporting patients and families with information regarding their cardiac condition and healthcare needs.
They will liaise with community teams including community teams, GPs, local hospital teams, palliative care specialist teams, as well as the mutli-disciplinary team colleagues.

Education
Essential criteria
1. Post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or equivalent post qualification experience (Specialist Congenital Heart Disease Course)
2. Leadership course
3. Mentorship course
4. RN1 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality
Desirable criteria
5. To have or working towards a masters degree
Skills/Knowledge
Essential criteria
6. Advanced clinical, managerial and leadership skills in specialty
7. Proven listening / counselling skills with the ability to manage complex situation and appropriately deliver sensitive and difficult outcomes.
8. Ability to conduct & evaluate own projects successfully
9. Demonstrate an understanding of: the National agenda for speciality. Knowledge of quality standards & NICE recommendations/NSF
Experience
Essential criteria
10. Proven evidence of management / leadership skills and autonomous practice
11. Extensive experience of working autonomously at an advanced level within the specialist area delivering effective patient focused care.
12. Experience of audit, research & evidence based care
13. Previous experience of student supervision and clinical education at undergraduate level
