The FY2 Locally Employed Doctor post within the Emergency Department provides an excellent opportunity to develop clinical skills and experience in acute medicine and emergency care.
Job Responsibilities
- Clinical Assessment and Management
- Perform initial clinical assessments of patients presenting with urgent or emergency conditions.
- Take thorough histories, conduct physical examinations, and formulate working diagnoses.
- Order and interpret relevant investigations.
- Patient Care and Monitoring
- Monitor patient progress and respond to changes in clinical status.
- Recognise and escale deteriorating patients promptly to senior colleagues.
- Ensure safe and effective handovers between shifts and multidisciplinary team members.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping
- Maintain accurate, timely, and detailed clinical records in line with legal and organisational standards.
- Complete discharge summaries and referral letters as required.
- Multidisciplinary Team Working
- Collaborate effectively with nurses, senior doctors, allied health professionals, and support staff to deliver coordinated care.
- Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and handovers.
- Training and Professional Development
- Engage actively in departmental teaching sessions, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

Person Specification
Essential
- Full GMC registration.
- Completion of Foundation Year 1.
- Experience in acute or emergency medicine.
- Sound knowledge of common emergency presentations.
- Effective clinical assessment and diagnostics skills.
- Resilience and adaptability to fast paced environment.
Desirable
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Previous experience working in an emergency department.
