Offer description

Overview

The Podiatry Service in Fife is delighted to offer an exciting and innovative pathway into the Podiatry profession. The Pre-Registration Podiatry; Accessible Recruitment & Employment (PREPARE) Project provides a unique opportunity to earn a competitive salary while completing the BSc (Hons) Podiatry degree with Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU).

Successful candidates must meet the eligibility criteria to undertake the graduate degree as offered by GCU. GCU’s flexible entry policies welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds; relevant work experience, prior learning or professional credits may be considered. What matters most is your potential, motivation and commitment to delivering high‑quality patient care.

Training and Work Schedule

As a PREPARE Trainee (employed on Annex 21 Terms), you will be supported throughout a four‑year training period that combines academic learning with hands‑on experience:

* Up to 3 days per week – hybrid delivery of on campus and online teaching and learning with GCU
* 2 days per week – working within NHS Fife Podiatry during term time
* 5 days per week – fully integrated into the service during non‑term periods

This blended approach ensures you develop strong clinical insight, practical skills and real confidence while contributing to the delivery of high‑quality patient care across Fife.

Successful completion of the degree and registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) will lead to an appointment into a substantive Band 5 Podiatrist post within our service.

Service Description

The podiatry service provides a comprehensive prevention and early intervention service to the population of Fife. This is delivered throughout the region from a network of community clinics and hospitals, in people’s own homes or in homely settings (care homes). We aim to deliver high quality care to patients and their carers through triage, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of foot and lower limb conditions. Our service is patient‑centred, encouraging self‑care when appropriate and working together to develop individual management plans where indicated. We focus on saving limbs and the management and treatment of complex foot and ankle musculoskeletal conditions.

Who We Are Looking For

* Highly motivated and enthusiastic about a career in healthcare
* Strong communicators with good problem‑solving skills
* Able to demonstrate care, compassion and professionalism
* Passionate about making a difference in the wellbeing of our Fife communities

If this sounds like you, we would be delighted to receive your application. It is essential to complete Assessment Form B and its additional question as part of your application submission.

Open Event

There will be an open event at the Podiatry Department, located in the Carnegie Unit at Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline, on Tuesday 31st March from 5:00‑7:00 PM. Come along if you would like to learn more about the services we provide and find out what this role involves. We’d be delighted to see you there.

Contact

For informal enquiries, please contact Moira Dunsire, Podiatry Clinical Service Manager by email at moira.dunsire@nhs.scot or call 01592 645285.

Additional Information

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.

NHS Fife is legally obliged to ensure all its employees are legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom. If you are not a United Kingdom (UK) or Irish National, you are required to confirm your right to work in your application.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service. As part of the pre‑employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK.

For specific types of post, if you do not have the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, it might be possible (though not guaranteed) to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa. This is only possible if the employer is a licensed Sponsor and if the post does not fall below the current minimum salary threshold or ‘going rate’. It is ESSENTIAL that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work or that the post would be eligible to be sponsored BEFORE submitting your application form.

Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. Any changes to what is currently required will be confirmed by either the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team. For more details on these changes please visit: Disclosure Scotland Changes.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

We offer flexible working and family‑friendly policies and fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long‑term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices. NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
