NHS Golden Jubilee has an exciting opportunity for an assistant psychologist with experience in the field of clinical health psychology to join our team and contribute to the high quality care provided by the Psychology service across this site.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team and provide a key role in providing support to the Psychology team. You will work closely with existing members of the team, providing and facilitating support in line with the psychological therapies service strategy. You will be joining an established team, who contribute to MDT clinical care in advanced heart failure and transplant, adult congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, and intensive care. The team is led and supported by a consultant clinical psychologist/head of service who will provide the successful post holder with the necessary support. Ongoing developments within the team will provide a great opportunity for the consolidation and development of your knowledge and skills of applied psychology.
Funding is available for this post until 31st March 2026. This will be a fixed-term position. The post will be clinically aligned with a project exploring whether a psychology and dietetic led specialist weight management group (SWMG) can facilitate meaningful improvements in both physical and psychological health outcomes for patients who do not pass their pre-assessment for arthroplasty due to their high BMI. The SWMG intervention combines the use of a biopsychosocial formulation together with a motivational interviewing counselling approach for group facilitation (Wagner & Ingersoll, 2013).
Experience in working in an assistant psychologist role, or other equivalent experience, is preferred and the candidate must hold a 2:1 degree in Psychology. We are seeking candidates who have experience in facilitating patient therapeutic groups, and have a good knowledge of psychological theory and models of application.
