Job Summary We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and experienced School Caretaker to join our site team. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the safety, security, and cleanliness of the school premises, ensuring that all facilities are kept to a high standard and in full working order. Key Responsibilities Site Security & Safety * Open and secure the school each day, ensuring all alarms, gates, and access points are managed safely. * Act as a keyholder and respond to any out-of-hours call-outs when required. * Conduct regular site checks to identify and report potential health and safety hazards. * Ensure fire alarms, emergency lighting, and safety equipment are regularly tested and recorded. Maintenance & Repairs * Carry out day-to-day maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, painting, carpentry, and electrical work. * Liaise with external contractors to ensure work is completed to a high standard and in line with school policies. * Maintain accurate records of site repairs, inspections, and maintenance schedules. Cleaning & Facilities Management * Support the cleaning team and ensure classrooms, corridors, and communal areas are well-presented. * Maintain cleaning supplies, equipment, and ensure COSHH regulations are followed. * Assist with room setups for school events, meetings, and exams. Grounds & Premises Upkeep * Keep outdoor areas, car parks, and pathways clean, safe, and free from debris. * Carry out seasonal maintenance, including snow/ice clearing and gritting when required. * Support recycling and waste management initiatives across the school. Health & Safety Compliance * Ensure the site complies with statutory regulations, including fire safety, asbestos management, and risk assessments. * Work closely with the Site Manager to implement and review health and safety procedures. Person Specification Essential: * Previous experience working as a caretaker, site assistant, or facilities officer (preferably in a school environment). * Good understanding of health & safety, security, and maintenance procedures. * Ability to work independently and take initiative. * Flexible and reliable approach with strong problem-solving skills. * Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one). Desirable: * Experience within a SEN or alternative provision setting. * Basic trade skills (plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting). * First Aid and Fire Safety training
