We are looking for an enthusiastic band 5/6 MRI radiographer to work within the MRI team at Lancashire Teaching Hospital Trust. Consideration will be taken into account for those Radiographers with less MRI experience on a linked grade pathway.

This dynamic job role will consist of working across 3 different sites, Royal Preston Hospital (RPH), Chorley District Hosptial (CDH) and a community diagnostic centre mobile scanner. The MRI department at RPH is a bright and spacious building which provides a suite of 4 scanners. The CDH department houses a 1.5T scanner.

You will join a welcoming MRI team who have continuously worked hard to receive four GOLD star ratings in recent STAR visits.

In this post, you will perform a diverse range of MR examinations for both adult and paediatric patients in outpatient, inpatient and emergency department settings. You will interact with a number of multi-disciplinary teams, such as the theatre team for patients undergoing MRI under anaesthetic and the pacing team, for patients with a cardiac implantable electronic device undergoing MRI.

As an MRI radiographer, you will be a key part of the imaging team, ensuring that our service user's needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care.

Main duties of the job

To assist in the provision of an efficient MRI service.

To work within the MRI team to deliver the best possible care to patients whilst producing optimum quality diagnostic images.

To be an excellent team player and work alongside other multi-disciplinary teams, communicating effectively to ensure service user satisfaction.

To have the ability to accept responsibility and make decisions.

To participate in departmental audits, research projects and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.

To adhere to the current MHRA guidelines along with local policies and practises to ensure the safety of patients, visitors and staff at all times within the MR department.

To provide guidance and support to junior members of staff & students.

To empathise and reassure patients who are worried, anxious or reluctant to undergo the procedure by providing thoughtful and well constructed responses to their questions.

To participate in an on-call service and extended days.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties to include but not be limited to:

1. Undertake radiographic duties across 3 sites within Lancashire Teaching Hospital Trust, ensuring high standards of image quality and patient care at all times.

2. Comply with the current MHRA guidelines to ensure the safety of patients, visitors and staff at all times within the MR controlled area.

3. Manage the workflow in the area you are working in including out-patients, in-patients, and patients from the emergency department.

4. Report equipment failures and incidents according to Trust policy

5. Participate in audits for the department ensuring excellent clinical governance in all aspects of patient care.

6. Comply with Trust policies and procedures to ensure a safe effective environment and service for all.

7. Ensure accurate and timely documentation in line with information governance good practice.

8. Support and teach others within the department.

Person specification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

9. Experience in cross-sectional imaging
10. Demonstrates the ability to produce a high standard of work.
11. Involvement with QA.
12. Evidence of willingness to expand clinical role.
13. Evidence of a commitment to reflecting on and learning from previous practice.
14. Awareness of changes within imaging practice
15. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice
16. Experience of audit.
17. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures

Desirable criteria

18. Experience of MR advanced neuro-techniques as applicable to role.
19. Experience of paediatric Imaging
20. Knowledge of MHRA 2008.
21. NHS Experience

Qualifications and Education

Essential criteria

22. BSc Diagnostic Radiography
23. HCPC Registered
24. Substantial post qualification experience

Desirable criteria

25. Attendance at study days/conferences
