Responsibilities and duties of the Programme Manager role
Reporting to the Operations Director, you will:
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of planners to ensure excellence across project planning.
Establish, implement, and standardise planning processes, procedures, and reporting documentation.
Provide planning support to pre-contract and live projects, collaborating closely with commercial, bid, and construction teams.
Deliver progress, jeopardy, and summary-level reporting to senior leadership and board members.
Liaise with operations to identify efficiencies and implement best practice in programme management.
Provide metrics to estimating teams to support project durations and forecasting.
Challenge site progress where required, ensuring timelines, milestones, and resource plans are adhered to.
Support commercial teams in securing contract entitlements and developing budgets and forecasts.
Manage inter-departmental compliance and coordinate with project teams to ensure adequate planning resources.
Engage with sales and tendering teams to guide programme creation, review deliverables, and ensure accuracy.
Act as the escalation point for planning-related queries and maintain oversight of software use (Primavera P6 and MS Project).
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
5+ years' experience in construction, with strong exposure to electrical and/or civil projects.
Advanced skills in Primavera P6 and MS Project.
Experience working with blue-chip clients and the ability to influence at all organisational levels.
Renewable energy or utility industry experience.
3+ years of line management experience.
PRINCE2 qualification.
Knowledge of NEC3/4, IET, FIDIC, or JCT contracts.
Ability to challenge project information, understand project structures, milestones, and procurement timelines (e.g., switchgear, transformers).
Understanding of large-scale grid projects, including 132kV, 275kV, and 400kV.
Familiarity with AutoDesk Construction Cloud is desirable.
