The role is within the Vale of Glamorgan Hearing Support Service which is part of the Vale of Glamorgan’s Wellbeing and ALN Directorate. The job is based within the Hearing Resource Base at St Cyres Comprehensive School, Penarth. You would be part of an energetic and supportive team who are passionate about the education of deaf young people.

Pay Details: Grade 5, spinal point 8-12 £26,824 - £28,598 Pro Rata £13.90 - £14.82 Per Hour.
30 hours : 5 days a week,

Description:
The role involves supporting pupils with hearing loss to access the curriculum using a variety of communication approaches and enabling them to be fully involved in all aspects of school life. On a day to day basis, this entails in class support for individual pupils and one to one or small group work within the Resource Base. The pupils are enthusiastic, motivated and a delight to work with
The successful candidate will work with pupils with hearing loss across Key Stages 3,4 and 5.
The role may also require supporting the Hearing Support team with outreach work in other schools within the Vale of Glamorgan when needed.
About you
You will need to have :
1. Understanding of the different educational and social needs of pupils with hearing loss and additional learning needs and the effects of hearing loss on learning
2. Previous and recent experience working with children in a secondary school setting
3. Ability to support pupils with hearing loss across all curriculum areas
4. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
5. Good analytical and problem solving skills.
6. Able to work independently with initiative but also as part of a team.
7. Good organisation skills
8. Willing and able to learn new skills
9. Ability to promote pupils’ independent learning
10. Good general standard of education including ‘C’ grade or above in English and Maths GCSE as a minimum
11. Prepared to undertake relevant training as required
12. BSL Level 2 or above (or willing to attain this in own time)
13. Willing to carry out outreach work under direction of Teacher of the Deaf as required
