Offer description

Choices College (formerly Project Choice) is a supported internship programme aimed at helping young adults with learning difficulties, disabilities, or autism become employment-ready.

You will work closely with the Area Manager to deliver the College's outcomes and maintain an employment transition rate for students above 75%. You will play a key role in ensuring the programme meets the needs of students, employers, and regulatory bodies.

Please note: Willingness to travel in the Manchester area is essential.


Main duties of the job

A passion for supporting students with SEN to reach their full potential is essential. The post holder should hold a teaching qualification or have recent experience supporting students with SEN in classroom and work placement settings. Skills in adapting working practices to individual learning needs using Training in Systematic Instruction methodologies are required.

The candidate should be a confident communicator with excellent motivating skills, highly organized, and proficient in MS Office.

The main duties include supporting, monitoring, and recording students' progress, reinforcing employability skills through classroom sessions, delivering bespoke training to mentors, and sourcing new employers for placements and employment transitions.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend at least 40% of their time working in person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will typically be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

If successful, an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) will be conducted via the Electronic Staff Record system (ESR), gathering essential onboarding information. You may opt out of this process during recruitment if you wish.

Secondments

Applicants from within the NHS will be considered on a secondment basis only, with prior employer approval required.


Person Specification

* Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field
* TSI trained with evidence of outcomes or similar experience; PGCE or equivalent qualification preferred
* Teaching qualification or relevant experience working with young people with learning disabilities or Autism


Experience

* Experience working with young people with SEN
* Knowledge of administrative procedures, project management, and data analysis
* Experience engaging with stakeholders and providing advice
* Experience in post-16 education and classroom environments


Skills and Abilities

* Ability to support interns with learning disabilities or Autism through work-based learning
* Ability to train mentors in supported internship methodologies
* Strong communication skills for complex information and placement matters
* Ability to prepare comprehensive reports, data, and correspondence

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This role requires a DBS check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, to assess any criminal convictions.
