Position Summary
Under minimum supervision, performs diagnostic, service, and installation electrical work in residential customer homes. Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. Ensures work is performed in accordance with relevant codes. Communicates with residential customers to answer questions, resolve problems, and ensure complete customer satisfaction. Promotes products and services to customers.
Key Responsibilities
* Analyze, diagnose, and resolve customer problems in a courteous, professional, timely, and accurate manner.
* Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components using test equipment and hand tools; may provide preliminary sketches or cost estimates for materials or services.
* Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or need for adjustment or repair and ensure compliance with codes.
* Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes.
* Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
* Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools or power tools; connect wires to circuit breakers or transformers; mount switches or outlets.
* Place conduit, pipes, or tubing; pull insulated wires or cables to complete circuits between boxes.
* Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment.
* Construct and fabricate parts using hand tools and specifications.
* Utilize tools and equipment such as power tools, measuring devices, oscilloscopes, or meters.
* Work from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical systems.
* Maintain current electrician’s license in accordance with governmental regulations.
* Ensure company property, vehicles, and tools are used, maintained, and accounted for.
* Follow standard procedures to stock company vehicle, return defective warranty parts, and replenish vehicle stock as needed.
* Represent the company professionally, honestly, and ethically; perform similar or other duties as needed or assigned.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
* High School diploma or equivalent
* Four years experience in electrical repair, maintenance, and installation, plus on-the-job training
* Knowledge of national, state, and local electrical code regulations and ongoing education
* Knowledge of houses, buildings, and related construction tools and processes
* Mathematical proficiency; metric and standard measurements
* Ability to read wiring diagrams and troubleshoot electrical systems
* Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to operate necessary tools
* Effective communication skills to interact with customers and resolve issues
* Strong time-management and organizational skills
* Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
* Ability to work flexible hours and on-call shifts as needed
* Physical ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and maneuver in attics, basements, and crawl spaces; ability to lift up to 50 pounds
