Job Description:
As part of our new Network Maintenance Contract, we have an ambitious programme of bridge maintenance work, including upgrading or replacing life-expired and sub-standard Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) components on structures such as the Caledonian Canal swing bridges on the A82 and A830 between Inverness and Fort William, and operation/maintenance of the Kessock Bridge mobile inspection gantry. Our current budget for bridge M&E maintenance is £1-2 Million annually.
We are seeking an M&E Engineer with experience in moving structures and/or bridge gantries operation and maintenance to join our team in Inverness.
The Engineer/Senior Engineer (M&E) will manage or conduct investigations, design, procurement, and construction of various bridge M&E schemes.
Candidates should have experience with design/maintenance of mechanical and hydraulic bridge components, electrical/electronic systems, and knowledge of health, safety, environmental, and commercial aspects.
We seek a motivated individual interested in career progression, with good teamwork and communication skills, flexibility, and a valid driving license.
Job Purpose:
* Assist, complete, or manage investigations, design, planning, procurement, and construction of bridge M&E maintenance and replacement works, collaborating with internal teams, consultants, and subcontractors.
Responsibilities include:
* Monitoring financial performance of schemes
* Following health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures
* Ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations and conducting risk assessments
* Collaborating within NW Major Bridges and other departments
* Updating structural records
* Designing bridge M&E projects and preparing cost estimates
* Producing tender documents and construction plans
* Evaluating tenders and assisting with contract awards
* Supervising and measuring construction works
* Ensuring compliance with technical standards (DMRB, BS, BS EN, etc.)
* Conducting environmental screening and implementing mitigation measures
* Preparing departures from standards when applicable
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
* Extensive experience in M&E engineering related to moving structures and bridge gantries
* Degree in Mechanical/Systems Engineering or HND with relevant experience
* Membership of a professional body or ability to achieve IEng status
* Valid UK driving license
