Description As a Phlebotomist you will play a vital role in patient care by collecting blood samples safely and efficiently from patients across hospital wards, outpatient clinics, and community locations throughout South Essex. Responsibilities You will join a friendly, supportive, and professional team while developing your skills through our Phlebotomy Academy, which combines practical training and theoretical knowledge to help you succeed. Delivering safe and professional blood sample collection, following infection control and sample identification protocols. Working across hospital wards, outpatient clinics, and community settings. Providing reassurance and care to all patients, maintaining dignity and professionalism. Labelling, handling, and dispatching specimens accurately in line with procedures. Maintaining accurate records and documentation (manual and electronic). Using appropriate PPE and adhering to health and safety and infection prevention standards. Participating in weekend and bank holiday rotas as part of a flexible shift pattern. Completing all mandatory training, including First Aid, manual handling, and phlebotomy refreshers. Supporting continuous service improvement and patient satisfaction initiatives. Qualifications A good general education (GCSEs or equivalent). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a caring approach. Willingness to complete formal phlebotomy and First Aid training. Ability to follow procedures accurately and maintain attention to detail. Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (for multi-site work). Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and bank holidays. Desirable: Previous healthcare or care-related experience (training provided). Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team. Good organisational skills and attention to detail. Confidence using IT systems and recording information accurately. A genuine interest in healthcare and patient wellbeing. Motivated by: Making a real difference to patients and clinical teams. Gaining new skills and qualifications through structured training. Building a long-term career in healthcare, with progression to: Band 3 – Advanced Phlebotomist, developing leadership and clinical expertise. Band 4 – Phlebotomy Supervisor, overseeing team operations and service quality.
