Phlebotomist - GP Practice - Part Time - 16 to 18 hours a week
Working as part of the practicemultidisciplinary team, the post-holder will be responsible for performingvenepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patientpopulation.
In addition, the phlebotomist will beexpected to support the nursing team and GPs on an as required basis
Main duties of the job
The following arethe core responsibilities of the phlebotomist. There may be on occasion, arequirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors suchas workload and staffing levels:
Obtainingpatient consent for the collection of blood samples
Performingvenepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
Thecorrect labelling, packaging and storing of samples
Effectiveuse of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
Ensuringsamples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
Maintainingan effective liaison with the laboratory staff
Workingcollaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary forpatient related matters
Secondary Responsibilities
In addition tothe primary responsibilities, the phlebotomist may be requested to:
Participatein practice audit as directed by the audit lead
Supportand participate in shared learning within the practice
