Flight Control Engineer (GNC) – Defence / Autonomous Systems – Outside IR35 – Hybrid (London)
We are seeking an experienced Flight Control Engineer (GNC) to support the development of advanced autonomous systems within a cutting-edge, early-stage defence technology environment.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on the design, development, and implementation of guidance, navigation, and control systems for highly specialised aerial platforms. You will play a key role during a critical delivery phase, working closely with a small, high-performing team.
This is an opportunity to join a fast-moving startup that has recently completed an MOD-linked accelerator programme and is entering its next phase of growth.
Due to the nature of the work, this role requires candidates to be eligible for SC clearance.

* Strong experience in flight control systems / GNC (Guidance, Navigation & Control)
* Background in aerospace, defence, UAVs, drones, or missile systems
* Experience developing control algorithms and flight dynamics models
* Proficiency with MATLAB / Simulink or equivalent modelling tools
* Strong software engineering capability (Python, C++, or similar)
* Experience working across the full engineering lifecycle (design → test → iteration)
* Ability to operate in a small, fast-paced, hands-on environment
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Desirable:
* Experience with autonomous systems or computer vision-integrated platforms
* Exposure to real-world flight testing environments
* Understanding of embedded systems or flight software integration
* Previous experience in defence or MOD-aligned programmes
* Familiarity with simulation environments and sensor fusion
Additional Information:
* Outside IR35
* 12-month contract (initial), with strong likelihood of extension
* Start: June
