We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Mental Health and Autism Adviser to join our Student Support team on a fixed‑term basis to provide maternity cover. The post holder will play a key role in supporting students with mental health conditions and autism, responding to urgent mental health, and ensuring the University meets its legal and strategic commitments around student wellbeing and inclusion.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
* Have substantial experience of working with individuals on a one‑to‑one and group basis who are experiencing mental health difficulties.
* Demonstrate strong skills in assessing mental health and disability‑related needs and making appropriate recommendations and decisions around intervention.
* Have experience of managing risk and responding appropriately to students with urgent mental health needs.
* Possess a sound understanding of the Equality Act 2010 and experience of recommending reasonable adjustments.
* Be able to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support student wellbeing and success.
* Have excellent communication, organisational and record‑keeping skills.
* Be able to contribute to strategic initiatives relating to mental health, widening participation and inclusive practice, including priorities within our Access and Participation Plan.

The position we are filling is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and a satisfactory DBS disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required as part of our clearance procedures.
