Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist with experience in core areas of Occupational Therapy to lead our inpatient medical team.
You will be responsible for providing services to the acute medical wards (including cardiology and respiratory), and overseeing patients with neurological conditions across our acute site.
The team includes Occupational Therapy staff at all levels. This role offers opportunities for developing inter-professional skills, working closely with other disciplines, especially physiotherapy. While previous senior experience in acute care is preferred, we will consider junior applicants for a developmental role (Band 6 to 7 accelerated pathway). Deputising responsibilities will support the Therapies Manager in daily operations.
This is a part-time position of 22.5 hours per week, with flexible working patterns negotiable upon appointment.
Main duties include:
1. Providing high-quality occupational therapy to a specialist caseload of medical and neurology patients.
2. Managing complex caseloads in critical care and neurology using advanced clinical reasoning.
3. Leading and supervising junior staff, including occupational therapists, technical instructors, and assistants.
4. Supporting junior staff with complex cases requiring advanced reasoning.
5. Leading clinical occupational therapy developments and contributing to Trust-wide projects.
6. Maintaining and developing personal professional skills and contributing to the evidence base.
7. Educating occupational therapy students on placements.
8. Applying a client-centered approach and evidence-based practices in assessments and interventions.
9. Supporting service management alongside the deputy and therapy managers.
