The service administratively resides within the Family Services division. The current post is created to tackle the increasing demand from obstetrics and gynaecology service and to ensure safe obstetrics care.
The Obstetrics and Gynaecology service is offered across two main sites; Diana Princess of Wales Hospital and Scunthorpe General hospital. The Diana Princess of Wales Hospital covers antenatal clinics, gynaecology clinics, ambulatory, colposcopy clinics and theatre sessions. We provide level 2 neonatal care. The maternity unit, neonatal, NICU and administrative offices are all located within the Acorn suite. Gynaecology assessment unit (24/7) with in patient facility for Gynaecology, is provided at SDEC (Same day emergency care) and IAAU (integrated acute assessment unit).
In 2023/24 there were 2,121 deliveries in the maternity unit. The maternity provides LDRP (labour, delivery, recovery and postnatal) model of maternity care. There is consultant anaesthetist cover during working hours and a 24-hour epidural service is in operation. A robust midwifery team support the maternity service providing services in a hospital setting. There are advanced nurse practitioners and advanced midwifery practitioners incorporating in the medical rota. DPOW obstetrics and gynaecology training have been rated one of the highest in England at the national training survey in the last 2 years. We provide 60 hours on site consultant present at both acute sites.
As a senior employee of the Trust the post-holder will work in close co-operation with, and support, other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust’s patients.

* To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust’s and Operational Group’s services plans
