A leading provider of innovative laser systems, supporting markets such as renewables, microelectronics, research, life science, automotive and medicine.
We are seeking an experienced NPI Cross‑Site Engineer to transfer design knowledge into manufacturing, working closely with teams in Germany and Scotland across all product development phases and providing on‑site technical support during initial production.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
* Introduce and transfer new laser products, variations and changes into manufacturing.
* Participate in development phases at Kaiserslautern, Germany, focusing on prototype builds, design review, process and tools definition, representing NPI & Manufacturing KPIs.
* Participate in pilot phases at Glasgow, Scotland, focusing on training and supporting laser production operators.
* Participate in engineering release phases at Glasgow, Scotland, focusing on Manufacturing KPI improvement (Touch Time, Yield, Cycle Time).
* Cooperate with Manufacturing Engineering and Production departments at Glasgow, Scotland, to streamline and continuously improve processes.
* Cooperate with the Glasgow Engineering department to sustain running laser product lines.
* Create requirements within our product development process to ensure Design for Manufacturing.
* Develop manufacturing concepts, including production facilities, processes, automation and key performance indicators.
* Analyze and report on pilot run results, ensuring objectives for yields, touch time and cycle times are met.
* Define and create build processes and their workflows.
* Apply problem‑solving methods, define and implement measures, and confirm effectiveness.
* Provide third‑level technical support during the initial production phase.
Education & Experience
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering or physics, preferably photonics engineering or a similar field.
* Basic understanding of operations, processes and manufacturing concepts.
* Knowledge of basic mechanical and/or optical design principles.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with different departments and levels of the organization, identifying and resolving challenges and removing bottlenecks.
* Strong problem‑solving skills.
* Understanding of Lean principles.
* Awareness of quality and cost.
* Flexibility to travel (mostly to Germany, approximately a quarter of the year, and for periods of one to three weeks).
Preferred Additional Skills
* Experience in design and development of lasers or laser components and/or manufacturing is advantageous.
