Job overview

Please note: at this stage, the role is open only to colleagues currently employed within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts and the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB).

We have an exciting opportunity for a registered mental health professional (nursing, occupational therapy, or social work) to join the East Kent Community Rehabilitation Service as Operational Team Manager.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management and leadership of the 3 existing Community Rehabilitation Teams in East Kent. You will manage a team of clinical staff & be responsible for supporting individuals to reach their potential & to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality care.

The Community Rehabilitation Service provides a flexible range of mental health interventions to help clients complex mental health needs to manage their mental health more effectively & remain in their own homes. The team works in close partnership with Social Care & housing providers to ensure each client has the necessary resources available to enable them to engage in their rehab journey. Across the Community Rehabilitation teams, the clinical team consists of Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Nurses, & VCSE Workers.

The ideal applicant will have experience working as a band 6 or band 7 practitioner in a community mental health service. You’ll be competent at managing a complex caseload & have a good understanding of the health & social needs. You’ll also have supervisory & leadership experience.


Main duties of the job

To provide operational leadership and coordination of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the delivery of effective, efficient and high-quality service for service users. The role will include operational responsibilities.

You will:

* Line manage clinical staff.
* Utilise data to monitor the performance of the service against performance and quality indicators.
* Use your leadership skills to motivate and support high levels of performance amongst your team and the delivery of quality care.
* Ensure that Trust policies are adhered to and take appropriate action where performance and conduct issues arise.
* Have a lead role in the recruitment and retention of staff.
* Be required to liaise and collaborate with other services to promote and enhance patient experience and recovery.
* Ensure clear and accurate communication to the team and be able to escalate concerns to the senior management team as needed.
* Work with the Patient Safety and Quality team to improve clinical quality and safety, ensuring the risk register is kept up to date and incidents are reported and investigated in a timely manner and that learning is shared with the team.
* Work with the clinical and admin leads to ensure the team works to continuously improve the safe and effective delivery of care and that the patient and carer experience is positive.
* Ensure complaints are dealt with in a timely manner and any learning is shared and embedded.


Person specification


Training, Qualifications and Registration

* Registered Mental Nurse/Diploma in Nursing (Mental Health), Social Work or Occupational Therapy Degree
* Teaching and assessing qualification.
* Management/Clinical Leadership qualification or equivalent experience.


Experience

* Minimum of 2 years experience at Band 6 within a Community Service for Younger Adults with Mental Health Needs.
* Experience of managing a complex caseload within a Community setting for Younger Adults with Mental Health Needs.
* Leadership experience and skill of managing multi-disciplinary team.
* Experience of managing staff groups.


Knowledge and Skills

* In-depth knowledge of the needs of Younger Adults with Mental Health Needs.
* In-depth knowledge of the Care Programme Approach.
* In-depth knowledge of Trust Policies, Procedures and Guidelines and how they relate to Community Services for Younger Adults with Mental Health Needs.
* Sound knowledge of legislation relevant to area of practice, i.e. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act.
* Comprehensive knowledge of current treatments.
* Ability to effectively manage a team.
* Able to motivate staff and manage complexity in change.
* Proven excellence in verbal and written communications.
* Proven organisational skills.
* To be able to effectively manage a clinical caseload.
* Computer skills acquired through training or practical experience.
* Familiarity and understanding of Audit.
* Knowledge of Adult protection procedures.
* Knowledge of Trust data bases.
* Knowledge of Assessment tools for Younger Adults with Mental Health Needs.
* Familiarity with recent research and corporate initiatives.
* Able to use resources effectively within an agreed budget.


Our benefits

After 5 years of NHS service: 29 days for full-time staff, or pro rata if part-time.
