We are seeking a skilled and experienced Upholstery Sewing Machinist to join our upholstery workshop in Thurmaston, Leicester. The position involves precise cutting, cushion cover making, cushion inner preparationand machine and hand stitching, withboth fabric and leather, readyfor upholsteryby our highly skilled craftspeople who are making fine handmade upholstered furniture.
Due to the nature of the small team at the workshop the role will require a can-do attitude, and the candidate must not be afraid to get stuck in with the task at hand, be enthusiastic and self-motivated. This role is suitable for someone with an eye for detail and the ability to achieve the excellent standards for which the workshop is well known.
Purpose of the Position:
As an Upholstery Sewing Machinist, you will play a key role in creating high-quality upholstery furniture, loose cushions and inners, ensuring precision stitching and material preparation for our handmade furniture. You will work closely with the upholstery team to produce client orders, showroom pieces, and prototypes, maintaining our commitment to craftsmanship and excellence. Asa member of the team, you will also assist in ad hoc workshop tasks including tidying, moving and stocking up on materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:
* Operate industrial sewing machines to stitch fabric and leather upholstery covers.
* Cut and prepare materials to precise specifications.
* Maintain high-quality stitching, ensuring consistency in production.
* Work on loose cushion covers and inners with attention to detail.
* Adhere to quality control standards at all production stages.
* Maintain a safe and organised workspace.
* Assist with general ad hoc duties.
Qualifications for the Position:
* 3 years experience in a similar role.
* Experience in machining fabric and leather covers to a high standard.
* Knowledge of using industrial sewing machines, including lockstitch and overlockers.
* Ability to work with a variety of fabrics and leathers.
* Strong mathematical skills for accurate measurements and calculations.
* Ability to follow patterns and technical drawings accurately.
* Ensuring quality control processes are followed at all stages of production.
* Capable of working to deadlines.
* Takes a safety conscious approach to work with an understanding of the safe use of workshop machinery, hand and air tools.
Hours of work:
* Monday Thursday 8am-5pm
* Friday 8am-1pm
