In this pivotal role, you will collaborate with digital specialists, scientific experts, and project leaders across AstraZeneca's global network. You will champion advanced modelling solutions and drive drug development from clinical trials to commercial production. Your key responsibilities will include:
1. Translating complex pharmaceutical process problems into robust mechanistic models, providing actionable insights to accelerate drug development projects.
2. Collaborating with experimental scientists from diverse backgrounds to uncover new modelling opportunities and strategically guide experimental design.
3. Establishing strong, collaborative relationships within the digital and broader product development communities to maximize the transformative impact of modelling and simulation.
4. Driving organizational digital transformation by advancing best practices and advocating for the application of cutting-edge digital tools, including making them available to agentic AI systems.
5. Developing, validating, and deploying modelling and simulation protocols to support scientists across the wider scientific community.
Qualifications:
* MSc in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related discipline, ideally with specialization in process modelling and several years of industry experience. PhD is preferred.
* Extensive knowledge of process modelling fundamentals and demonstrable experience applying these principles to the development of industrial-scale products or processes.
* Proficiency in programming and simulation tools (such as Python, Matlab, gPROMS), with a readiness to explore emerging technologies.
* Strong collaboration, communication, influencing, and networking skills.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
* Industry experience within pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, food, cosmetics, personal care, or consumer goods.
* Experience with one or more of the following techniques: process modelling, discrete element modelling, computational fluid dynamics, system modelling, multiscale modelling, molecular dynamics.
* Comprehensive understanding of process equipment and technology.
* Demonstrated ability to proactively introduce and apply novel modelling approaches to advance product development and manufacturing.
* A track record of scientific publications in the field of modelling and simulation.
