Job Summary
This post is for Ipswich with a £12,000 welcome bonus. Join a team of enthusiastic, motivated, and committed consultants in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to enhance maternal safety within the unit. The new role follows successful national funding from the Ockenden bid process. The successful candidate will have a strong obstetric focus and demonstrate experience and interest in fetal medicine and high‑risk obstetrics. A complementary interest in maternal medicine would also be advantageous and support the existing consultant body.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Provide clinical leadership and administrative responsibility for the proper functioning of the Obstetric and Gynaecology Department.
* Develop standards, procedures and robust systems to ensure safe, high‑quality, and efficient patient care from admission to discharge.
* Supervise junior medical staff, providing one‑to‑one learning opportunities during formal and informal rounds and throughout the day.
* Lead risk management activities to ensure the safety and quality of care for women and their families.
* Actively participate in educational programmes for junior staff, including formal teaching sessions and clinical audits.
* Teach and train staff from other medical disciplines, nursing, and support staff as appropriate.
* Maintain an up‑to‑date personal development plan and job plan.
* Register and participate in the appropriate CPD scheme with the RCOG.
* Provide advice to GPs on the suitability of patients for admission to hospital.
* Collaborate with the Clinical Lead for the Obstetric and Gynaecology Department to develop the consultant’s role.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must have completed CCT or equivalent (CESR) and be on the Specialist Register. The successful candidate will possess:
* Full registration with the General Medical Council.
* MRCOG or equivalent.
* Training and experience equivalent to UK CCT.
* Entry onto the Specialist Register in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within 6 months of CCT date at interview.
* ATSM in Fetal medicine.
* ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward Practice or equivalent.
Desirable
* Higher degree.
* MOET/ALSO or equivalent training.
* PROMPT trained and faculty.
* Subspecialist training in Fetal Maternal Medicine.
* ATSM in Antenatal Care or High‑Risk Pregnancy.
