Job Summary
This trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner post is a 12‑month fixed‑term contract based at Rose Tree Avenue, Cudworth, Barnsley. The role involves working within the Barnsley NHS Talking Therapies Service, attending University of Sheffield one day per week, and delivering face‑to‑face, telephone and video based psychological interventions for clients with anxiety and depression. Training and supervision are provided, with a progression pathway to a permanent Band 5 PWP post upon successful completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Low Intensity Therapies (IAPT). The role is open to those who can prove right to work in the UK; sponsorship is not available.
Responsibilities
* Work collaboratively with primary health care staff to extend the range of effective treatment for people of all ages with common mental health problems.
* Promote positive mental health and the importance of mental well‑being.
* Support primary health care staff in developing skills and resources to address mental health issues.
* Provide information and support to primary health care colleagues to facilitate evidence‑based interventions for those experiencing common mental health problems.
* Deliver brief interventions and treatments, taking into account risk issues on a group or individual basis, under supervision of a qualified mental health practitioner.
* Support clinical audits and research projects by providing data collection, entry and analysis.
* Support links between primary health care and specialist mental health services.
* Participate in professional development opportunities, training and supervision, including achievement of the Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Care Mental Health.
* Conduct oneself in an equitable manner and be sensitive to individual circumstances and beliefs, in line with Trust policies.

Qualifications
* Undergraduate degree or equivalent level 6 qualification (health or psychology disciplines are advantageous).
* Postgraduate Certificate in Low Intensity Therapies (IAPT) or similar evidence of training accepted.
* Application for professional registration with the BABCP/BPS on completion of training.
Person Specification – Essential
* Two years substantial mental health work experience, including voluntary work.
* Commitment to social inclusion and equality, anti‑oppressive practice and valuing diversity.
* Ability to work in partnership with service users, carers and community organisations.
* Basic work processing and computer skills.
* Problem solving, good written and verbal communication, and presentation skills.
* Ability to work on own initiative, collaboratively and flexibly, with a current driving licence and access to a car during the working day.
* Commitment to professional development and continuous learning.
* Capacity to undertake the duties and demands of the post with a satisfactory sickness record over the previous 2 years.
Person Specification – Desirable
* Experience of working with people with communication difficulties.
Professional Development
Successful completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Low Intensity Therapies will lead to a permanent Band 5 Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner post. The contract remains conditional upon successful completion and registration efforts.
