Overview
Seeking a Design Project Manager to lead the pre-construction phase of major civil engineering projects. You will coordinate design activities, manage risks, shape construction strategies and ensure projects are technically and commercially ready for delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Construction Leadership
Lead and manage the full pre-construction phase
Coordinate design consultants and internal engineering teams
Run progress meetings and maintain budgets, schedules and reports
Identify risks, opportunities and manage change control
Oversee surveys, site investigations and early planning activities
Design Management
Produce design briefs and plans
Lead design reviews and ensure compliance with client, statutory and industry standards
Ensure designs are safe, buildable and efficient
Coordinate permanent and temporary works interfaces
Support technical queries and early-stage engineering decisions
Commercial & Supply Chain
Support tendering, proposals and bid submissions
Provide technical and commercial inputs for pricing and assumptions
Manage supplier appointments and design-related procurement
Health, Safety & Quality
Ensure compliance with CDM2015 during pre-construction
Ensure quality in design outputs, investigations and documentation
About You
Experience in design management or pre-construction roles
Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
Understanding of CDM, design management, planning and cost control
Able to use Primavera P6 (or similar)
Strong communication and coordination skills
Able to challenge designs, solve problems and lead multi-disciplinary teams
Desirable
Professional membership (IEng/CEng or similar)
Experience on water-sector or utility projects
