Akrotiri School is situated in the Western Sovereign Base Area (WSBA) of British Forces Cyprus in RAF Akrotiri with approximately 420 children on role which fluctuates due to mobility. Children are predominantly from service families with the remainder made up from civilian support elements.

As a driven, focused leader, your track record of improving standards will make you perfect for this role. You will support the Headteacher and lead an area of specialism within the school. The successful candidate will need to be motivated, innovative, flexible and have a proven track record of working with children with a wide range of needs. They will have a passion for developing and extending potential in both our pupils and staff team by recognising and nurturing individual qualities and strengths, and understanding well the unique context of the school.

Akrotiri School is part of Defence Children Services (DCS), who are a Defence delivery organisation, subordinated under Army Regional Command. Our Vision is that we Educate the Child – Support the Family – Defend the Nation. HQ DCS is UK based at Trenchard Lines, Upavon and has forward deployed staff all over the world. DCS is responsible for the education and care of children of accompanied Service and Defence entitled personnel in MOD schools and settings; provides advice and guidance in respect of education for service families in the United Kingdom and the wider world.

The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army. As such using data to aid understanding of our workforce is vital.

Specially recruited for overseas service appointees are not expected to return to the UK.

The Deputy Headteacher will play a crucial role in supporting the Headteacher in the overall leadership and management of the school. The ideal candidate will have a strong educational background, leadership experience, and a passion for fostering a positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

* Formulate the aims and objectives of the school.
* Establish policies for achieving these aims and objectives.
* Manage staff and resources to achieve school goals.
* Monitor progress towards the achievement of the school's aims and objectives.
* Support the self-evaluation of leadership, teaching and learning, curriculum and identify priorities for improvement. Oversee assessment and data, and whole-school timetabling.
* Designated Safeguard Lead
* Line-Management responsibilities.

If the Headteacher is absent, the Deputy Headteacher will deputise, as directed by the governing board. The Deputy Headteacher will also be expected to fulfil the professional responsibilities of a headteacher, as set out in the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document (STPCD).

For this position we will require you to have experience in:

* Successful and sustained leadership and management in a school following a UK curriculum
* Proven high quality teaching and reflective practice to deliver positive school improvement outcomes
* Involvement in school self-evaluation and development planning.
* Demonstrable experience of successful line management and staff development.
* Developing teaching and learning; curriculum; assessment and data; whole-school timetabling.
* Data analysis skills, and the ability to use data to set targets and identify weaknesses.
* Understanding high-quality teaching, and the ability to model this for others and support others to improve.
* Understanding of school finances and financial management.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable

* National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL).
