Our clients, a leading Property Services company, long‑established Plymouth painting team, continue to flourish and are looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor.
This opportunity offers the chance to welcome a driven, people‑focused and entrepreneurial Quantity Surveyor to join their long‑reigning and supportive commercial and operational team, who specialise in painting and decorating and associated planned refurbishment works across the South West based out of Plymouth.
Salary & Benefits
£60,630 inc car allowance (£6,700) plus fuel card, Profit share (last year 9.33%), private health, pension, life insurance, etc.

Responsibilities
- Measure and prepare cost estimates for contracts and tenders, highlighting any commercial risks and mitigation.
- Prepare cost value reconciliations for contracts, identifying commercial risks and opportunities to ensure correct contract planning from the outset.
- Work closely with the Contracts Manager to ensure productivity labour targets are agreed and issued before contract start, including direct labour incentives where possible.
- Build strong client, supplier and subcontractor relations to ensure any variations and progress of contracts are discussed and mutually commercially viable solutions are sought.
- Complete and analyse weekly reporting from site, ensuring it has adequate cost information (including labour rates, performance expectations, budgets, value, progress, quality and safety).
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience in a similar surveying role; commercial ownership of projects and contracts from tender and estimation to final account.
- Experience of working for a painting or refurbishment contractor is very advantageous.
- Experience of successfully managing commercial work totalling up to £2 million annually.
- Schedule of Rates (SORs) experience.
- Entrepreneurial spirit with a keen eye for identifying business opportunities, negotiation areas and better gains; a commercial, analytical and accurate approach.
- Experience dealing with direct labour teams, timesheets and subcontractors.
- Background in painting, brickwork, plastering, roofing, civils or new builds in terms of QS.
- Experience on site, pricing, dealing with direct labour and subcontractors, timesheets, etc.
- Experience in social housing or council/local authority housing associations.
