Job Summary
Full‑time role (37.5 hours per week) within a prison healthcare setting. The position is a DART (Drug and Alcohol Recovery Team) Healthcare Assistant, supporting nursing staff in delivering primary care, mental health and substance misuse services.
Main Duties
* Complete DART assessments: COWS, CIWA‑A and CIWA‑B.
* Carry out urine drug screening, blood‑borne virus screening, phlebotomy and ECG recordings.
* Support the Buvidal injection clinic – prepare equipment, assist with patient flow and ensure accurate documentation.
* Record clinical observations (NEWS2) and perform opioid toxicity checks.
* Provide harm‑reduction advice, substance misuse education and general wellbeing support.
* Assist with health promotion interventions and annual health reviews for patients on opioid substitution therapy.
* Maintain patient confidentiality, dignity and respect within a secure environment.
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, NHS Care Certificate, or final‑year Registered Nursing student.
* Experience working with people with complex health needs in a health or social care setting.
* Knowledge of nursing standards, clinical procedures and confidentiality principles.
* UK professional registration.
Desirable
* Experience in prison or secured environments.
* Multi‑disciplinary team working and emergency response experience.
* Knowledge of SystmOne, phlebotomy, ECG and wound care.
Skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication.
* Teamworking with effective relationship management and conflict mitigation.
* Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate initiative.
* Promotion of patient self‑management of mental and physical needs.
