Job Description:
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to work in the Alcohol Related Brain Damage unit (ARBD) based at Milestone House, Edinburgh. ARBD provides a short-stay residential service accepting admissions from hospital settings. The service focuses on improving patients’ cognitive impairment, promoting recovery, and organizing discharge with community-based support. The aim is to optimize the patient’s chances of returning home; however, some individuals may require longer-term alternatives.
The successful candidate will work with residents in ARBD and facilitate community group interventions aimed at supporting the transition between residential and community living. They will have close links with occupational therapists working in various addictions and mental health teams and services in Edinburgh.
The Occupational Therapist will have broad knowledge of various health conditions and social factors impacting individuals, exploring how alcohol affects their lives and occupational participation. Working jointly with individuals, occupational therapy can address physical, cognitive, emotional, mental health, and social issues, supporting decision-making around discharge and support needs.
The successful candidate should possess leadership and innovation skills and be able to work independently and within a multi-professional/multi-agency team. Excellent teamwork, enthusiasm, and energy are essential.
NHS Scotland is committed to promoting equality and diversity, eliminating unlawful discrimination, and ensuring a workforce that is truly representative. We welcome applications from all sections of society and support disabled candidates, those with long-term conditions, or neurodivergent individuals through reasonable adjustments.
To work in the UK, applicants must demonstrate they have the relevant permission to work, granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service. Further information is available in the vacancy details.
