About the Role Birmingham City Council has set ambitious carbon reduction commitments, and our Route to Net Zero (R20) team is at the heart of driving this change. As an Assistant Portfolio Officer, you’ll play a key role in supporting the development, delivery, and monitoring of projects that will help the city transition to a more sustainable future. This is a varied role where you’ll combine strong organisational and communication skills with a genuine data and risk registers to co-ordinating meetings and supporting communications, you’ll be central to ensuring our projects run smoothly and align with governance and quality standards. Duties and Responsibilities Manage and maintain the R20 project monitoring database and risk register, providing accurate information to support performance reviews. Assist project leads in meeting governance and quality management requirements. Produce reports and dashboards to track progress and compliance with funding and procurement requirements. Organise and support internal and external meetings, including agendas, papers, minutes, and follow-up actions. Co-ordinate and support engagement activity, including the R20 Community Assembly and Advisory Committee. Research emerging issues and best practice in climate change and carbon reduction, preparing briefing notes where required. Contribute to communications and reporting activity, including preparation of materials for stakeholders. Support wider Council climate change activity, ensuring alignment with the Route to Net Zero Action Plan.
