Fawkes & Reece are currently recruiting for an experienced Temporary Site Manager to join a well-established UK main contractor on a major project in Edinburgh.
Our client delivers high-profile construction projects across hotel and leisure, commercial, industrial, health, and education sectors, including both new builds and refurbishments.
The Project
You will be working on the construction of six multi-storey RC frame student accommodation blocks, comprising approximately 650 bedrooms.
The Role
As Temporary Site Manager, you will work closely with the Project Manager, Contracts Director, site team, and subcontractors to ensure the successful delivery of the project. You will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of site operations, ensuring works are completed safely, on time, and to the required quality standards.
This role includes night shifts, with a strong focus on maintaining excellent relationships with clients and third parties. A detailed handover will be required at the end of each shift.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage daily site activities, labour, and subcontractors
• Coordinate all project disciplines alongside the Site Supervisor
• Act as the key link between design, commercial, and site teams
• Deliver toolbox talks and ensure compliance with RAMS
• Ensure strict adherence to health & safety and company processes
• Maintain accurate site records, reports, and documentation
• Liaise directly with clients and government officials
• Monitor progress, quality, and programme delivery
• Survey sites to identify issues and ensure design viability
• Manage labour costs to assess project feasibility and profitability
• Maintain strong customer relationships and client satisfaction
• Supervise, coach, and develop site staff as required
• Produce progress and remedial reports
• Carry out any other duties as required by management
Requirements
• Proven experience managing £20m+ projects with a main contractor
• SMSTS and CSCS certification
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of the full construction process
• Experience in design coordination, procurement, and quantity surveying
• Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams
• Excellent knowledge of health & safety and regulatory requirements
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and communication skills
• IT literate, with good knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Right to work in the UK
